I was in the Infantry in the Army and I swore that I'd never go camping again. The chiggers in Texas were the worst. An RV trip could be fun but I travel vicariously through newsletters such as yours. By the way my last newsletter was about my tour of duty at the JSA in Pan Mun Jom, Korea, in 1978. Here is part of the poem I wrote for it:

The tension was palpable and real,

A valuable intractable ordeal,

But he did his duty until the end of his tour,

For the love of his country he did it for.

Great post, Sarah! In answer to your questions:

I've never camped in a tent as an adult, and gosh, I really don't think I want to.

A surprise came into my life in March 2020 - not in the form of Covid (although, as surprises go, that was a big one!) but a second-hand VW T5 camper, which my husband bought without any notice specifically for a multi-location photographic job where we'd need to have both transport and accommodation. And wow, we've had an amazing time in it! I had NO idea I'd take to campervan camping in the way that I have - it's been a wonderful experience. Turns out that two six-foot-plus people, food and clothing for over a week at a time and a load of camera gear DO fit into such a small footprint.

Because of the pandemic we haven't yet made it to an RV show, although there's one coming up at the end of next month. Your post has encouraged me to look at maybe getting tickets...!
