We have certainly learned how to prepare for being without water, electricity, and heat in Austin! We have a game plan now, though, in case February 2024 wants to continue the annual deep freeze!

Solar panels were a life saver! But Texans shouldn't have to do that kind of prep b😔

I will never forget waking up in the middle of the night that February morning in 2021 and seeing Blizzard warnings coming in from the western counties outside of Houston. A shock even to this lifelong Texan! Growing up in DFW, we had our share of snowy days, more so in the 80s than in the 90s, but still some. I'd forgotten how cold it could get here in Texas after 8 years in Florida!

Your poor in-laws! I’m always grumpy when I’m in a cold place that is supposed to be warm.

Ah, man, that 2017 snow storm brings back such memories! Born and raised here, we were over the moon, but I can understand how if you were trying to escape the snow it would be a pain!

We’re y’all still here for the Feb 2021 freeze? I haven’t finished the article yet, you might address that too haha

Ah yep there it is. We stayed with my parents who miraculously never lost power--I was 4 or 5 months pregnant and so grateful that they let us stay with them. What a time to be in Texas.

And I think that's one of my goals with this series (and maybe eventually a book collection of this series). Living somewhere else teaches us SO much about other places and even in the US, different cultures within American culture. Texas gets such a bad rap nowadays outside of the state due to the legislature, but I want people to know that there is great good alongside the bad. And we should all care about what is happening in other states because it could impact us eventually.
