In the UK, we still get snow days but they do seem to be much rarer. I have such fond memories of snow days in my own childhood; they allow for free play (something we seem to value less these days, but is vital).
On the flip side, our kids are still playing catch up from Covid, so can we afford to delay their learning further?
We're still recovering from COVID in the US too, some kids more than others.
Thankfully my kids were done early enough that my 13-year-old did get some time playing outside and it was fantastic to watch. But yes, we are going to have to keep having complex and nuanced conversations about all of this.
Great take! As a Mom & someone who’s been educated to be an educational assistant I see both sides. Here in central Saskatchewan 🇨🇦 we very rarely have snow days but it did happen once this year so far. I’m happy to have a fun day &/or do learning at home. Generally our schools don’t turn to e-learning when we do have snow days. It depends on the teacher, some will still do it but most don’t. It’s not mandated by our school board here.

Since we have to stick to the number of days we have per school year, our state mandates it. For a single day, I'm ok with it.
