There is a lot happening in this divided world. The dangers of fear and defensiveness, and the call to see the humanity in even those who may seem like adversaries, is a powerful reminder of the role empathy can play in healing a divided world. In a time when it's easy to retreat into echo chambers and seek confirmation of our own beliefs, your optimism is a beacon of hope for all. Thank you for your insightful sharing.
So thoughtful and well-said! And I love all of the resources you shared--I listen to, follow, and have read all of them and feel so much better for it. What a gift such helpful voices are!
Did I write this? No, I’m kidding- this was beautiful and uniquely you. But I relate heavily to being a perfectionist and an optimist. And I LOVE understanding why things happen. Why people do things. The most frustrating thing for me is not getting resolution or an answer. 100 percent agree with the idea that continuing to defend broken systems will not help us
I HATE walking into stores and seeing books on the shelves that just focus on how terrible people are, particularly politicians. All it does is focus on what's broken, without giving REAL solutions for how to help people flourish.
The phrase “focus on what’s broken” also reminded me that humans are innately wired with a negativity bias. I genuinely think it’s very hard for us as a society to dream new ways to be because believing something untested will work is so much harder than believing in something negative and non aspirational .
Yes, that’s for sure. I think - and I hope it’s not just a trend- that a deeper emphasis on sustained rest and activism with right intent and enjoying life is really taking off . I love seeing work published by women ( it’s just usually women) who talk about pleasure activism or reframing how you relate to patriarchal systems as a woman and it’s my life’s work( kidding, kind of) to make sure this stuff gets read! By more than a niche audience
I think this is a really beautiful way of putting it, there is so much hope to be found in this approach.
"Instead, I see a broken world that has always needed healing. I see the echoes and rhymes of the past showing up in the present. I understand that the long arc of human history has been a series of starts and stops, improvements and collapse, innovation and destruction. And instead of despairing over what has been lost, I would much rather figure out how to move forward."

Fear is a powerful drug and I have to fight against that instinct too. Thank you for commenting ♥️

Yes! And that is disheartening.

Thank you so much! I keep trying to remain optimistic, even if it drives me a little crazy.
