After living in Texas for six years and getting used to camping all year round, we’re coming to terms with the fact that we haven’t used our camper in nine months. This Memorial Day weekend trip is going to be our first camping trip of the year and the start of what is going to be a busy summer with less camping than we would like. If you are campers, are you camping this weekend? Where? If not, do you have other exciting travel plans for your Memorial Day weekend?

Hey Sarah! I'm waiting to take over my campervan from the company selling it (some paper work left). This spring and summer, my wife and I are planning to take our 8 month-old on the road as often as possible. I'm on three months of parental leave (thank you Germany!), making this possible. We're very excited - most likely we'll be visiting places near lakes and mountains, which means likely south of Germany (Bavaria).
Out of curiosity, why haven't you been using your camper? This is one of my biggest worries about investing in a camper of our own, so I'd love to know more if you're willing to share.
Our son is playing flag football this spring so we just couldn't fit it in. We have a long trip planned this summer (still trying to decide if we can do the full 16 days due to gas prices) and we'll probably schedule a weekend or two over the summer as well. We moved from Texas last year and I'm taking my kids back over 12 days, so that is taking up a lot of potential camping time. Don't worry. You'll use it. It's the best investment we've ever made in our family's quality of life.
Ah, your kid is of schooling age. We're not there yet so I didn't think "playing flag football" (or any sport) would be something that "competes" for camping time. It's a really good reason to miss camping for, though. Thanks for sharing!
Re: gas prices, we're feeling it too. We figured we'd do less driving, more camping, while the prices are peaking, and do the reverse when it falls. We'll see.
We have a trip from Indiana to Maine planned. That's a lot of miles in an F250, so we have to make a decision fast. But we'd be camping the whole way 😊
For those interested, here is a copyable link to the Google Doc we are using to plan our packing for our Memorial Day weekend trip: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1qD5PQijCZYsl1iUH53YXsFpHqoUPG8bTCU479c6zgdM/copy?usp=sharing
I’ll be working but hoping to sneak in a hike if the snow melts enough in the next few days!
Yay for hikes! We'll be hiking at Brown County 😉
