Sarah, thanks for posting this. Brought back memories of my own past visit. A wonderland for history nuts like me.

It really is such a rich spot for American history. And an important spot for American history.

Mr G's!! We found this ice cream place too in the short time we were there and LOVED it. It was the first stop after the marathon to treat ourselves. LOL. These pictures are gorgeous and we all want to go back again. There is so much we still need to discover and learn. I had no idea how much there was to see and do. Thank you for sharing this post.

This made me miss home. I used to live an hour away from Gettysburg growing up and I completely took for granted what a gem of history PA really was. We used to own a cabin that was only 15 minutes outside of the city limits and this was a frequent stop-- whether it was to go downtown for shopping or dining. Or to take a walk around the battlefield. Once I took a guided Segway tour which was awesome and silly. It allowed us to cover so much ground very quickly and get the full picture in just one day. The battlefield is massive, and though you can traverse most of it by car in the paved paths. Being able to just hop off the Segway and walk around was a huge plus. But the sheer amount of people, especially locals or students at Gettysburg university who would just lounge near monuments for an afternoon picnic was wild to see as well. It is such a huge part of history but very much a part of the living, breathing city as well. Also, pro tip: it’s an amazing spot to play Pokémon go. Every single landmark is a gym or spawning place which makes it great fun to go with kids. I spent many afternoons hunting Pokémon with my dad when I was younger. Lol!! Thanks for the trip down memory lane!

That's why my husband and I loved biking it several years ago. More physical labor, but gave us so much freedom to explore that we didn't necessarily have with a car.
