On the Journey 🥾
With a two-week fall break for myself and one week for both of our kids, we enjoyed local travel. We went to Brown County State Park twice for camping trips, the first for a wedding and the second for the annual Halloween in the Hills. The kids and I went to Conner Prairie for the first time ever, a visit that I fully appreciated and I started making plans for our return trip to the local step back in time. I will be writing about our October travels in November.
Book Progress
During my fall break, I completed the beta draft of my book and sent it to a team of readers who have been giving me valuable feedback that I am now utilizing to work on careful revisions. I have a lot of work to do to have the book ready for final edits in time to publish the book at the beginning of January, but I believe that I can do it. I’m so excited to complete this project. I’m proud of the evolution of my writing over time and I can’t wait to share it with a bigger audience.
Soundtracks For the Journey 🎧📚
I consider the soundtrack for my journey to be everything that I’m reading and listening to that is giving me a boost. You can also follow me on Goodreads to see what I’m reading every month. So here are my recommendations for the end of October:
I Guess I Haven’t Learned That Yet: When healing, it is important to know that you are not alone. Reading Shauna Niequist’s journey of spiritual and emotional healing mirrored much of my own. I found that many of her words could apply to me as well. It also helped to inspire me while I was working on the beta draft of my book.
Avatar: Ok, I know that I’m behind the times. Avatar came out years ago and yes, I watched it back then as well. But I didn’t love it. In fact, I didn’t even like it. I’m not entirely sure why I was so opposed to the movie, but I was. We took our daughter to see a re-release of it on the IMAX and we went from mocking a movie we haven’t seen in years to enjoying it enough that we are now eager for the sequel. Maybe we’re just more open to fully embracing a love for creation and care for the planet. In fact, I came back so excited about it, I convinced my podcasting partner that we needed to do an episode about it. Look for that to come soon at Lit Think.
Writing Outside of the Journey 💻
I continue to freelance for The Educator's Room. With Fall Break, I was able to jump onto a couple assignments before returning to a busy start to the second semester.
I also continue writing for our podcast, Lit Think. In addition to our podcast episodes (which you should also check out) I wrote:
What Is Coming Up Next?
I continue to consider getting back to the podcast and am looking at doing a national parks series in the new year, but for now I need to focus on my book, which is currently with my beta team and I’m getting a lot of good feedback that is sending me back to the revision process, again. Other writing content will drop when I have time and I’m feeling inspired.
I’m continuing with making all posts available for all readers as I work to grow my readership. I’m not quitting a day job that I enjoy and I’m still doing this as a hobby, so if you feel moved to support me through paid membership, thank you so much! Support helps me justify my regular writing habit. And please consider following us at litthinkpodcast.substack.com. We’re putting together a lot of really great content in our current season.
That’s all for October! Keep following me on Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter for additional updates.
