It’s hard for me to believe that I’ve already been in school for six weeks. I’m teaching a new course (Dual Credit with AP) and I’ve been enjoying the challenge of revisioning a course that I’ve taught at other schools. Our daughter started high school and our son is playing football for the first time.
And I am deep in the middle of heavy revision on the camping memoir that I started over five years ago.
In preparation for the hard work that my camping memoir is going to take over the next few months and the ideas I have for the future of this newsletter, I thought it would be prudent to drop you all a note to explain some of those moves.
New sections
I am expanding my sections and simplifying the home page on my Substack website. You may see some new series of newsletters come your way and you are welcome to unsubscribe to the ones that you are not interested in, but please give the new pieces a chance for a little while. I’m excited about all of the writing that I plan to share with my readers and I hope to keep growing this community of wonderers and wanderers.
New page links
Since I’m expanding the sections for the newsletter, I’m adding new page links to the home page to simplify the appearance and navigation and to give a better explanation for each of the sections on those pages. The intention is a better reader experience and less cluttered inbox, since you will be able to opt out of specific sections when you decide if that is what you want to do. Let me know what you think!
New series
As I was wrapping up work on the most recent draft of my camping memoir, I decided that I want my next book project to be about living in Texas. I know, I know. I haven’t finished the book I’m working on now. But I wanted to know where I’m headed, so I’m workshopping that through a new section that I’m titling “Midwestern Reflections on the Lone Star State.” I hope that you will enjoy it, share it, and comment with your own reflections.
Paid subscriptions
I will continue to work on fresh material for my paid subscribers, but it’s tricky. I really want to make most of my work available for all, and the more intimate work is on the back burner while I finish the revision and publishing proposals for my camping memoir.
However, all of the writing I do is a lot of work. I fully appreciate the support that those few paying subscribers give me. So please consider upgrading to paid, as that will help continue to support my work outside of my day job as a teacher and in the time that I’m hiding away from my family writing. And if you can’t do so financially, please continue to share my work with others to get it out there. Your willingness to open up new audiences for my writing is invaluable.
And that is it for now! Thank you so much for joining me on the journey as I grow personally and as a writer. I love sharing my writing with you all and please share it with others.
Please “like” by clicking on the ❤ and share this post with your friends so that others can join me on the journey.
